How To Build Roman Blinds

Relaxed roman blinds are not folded, but have a relaxation curve at the bottom. Roman shades you can buy in a store, but they are easier to make than many people think. Making your own Roman shades you’ll be adding to the options of your custom style.

The roman blinds, measure and estimate the amount of fabric and lining. Place the first strip of wood to the window, inside the top of the window sill for an interior shutter or above the window frame for an exterior shutter. Add a length of Velcro to the end of the slat.

Measure the distance from the top of the bar to the chosen length of the roman blinds. Add an extra for this measurement to account for the hem. This is the length of fabric you need for your shade. To calculate the required width, measure the length of your bar and add additional material for sewing. Divide this number by the designated width of the fabric you’ve chosen (check with your dealer about this wide) and rounded to the nearest whole number. This is the number of widths required. Leave an additional 2 inches (5.08 cm) for each seam.
